Выложу-таки транскрипт интервью с Джиллиан во вчерашних новостях ВВС. Хотя о Тоби опять ни слова, всё же в интервью, кроме всего прочего, шла речь о спектакле. В оправдание Джиллиан хочу сказать, что наверняка её упорное неупоминание о Тоби и других актёрах, занятых в постановке, заранее обговаривалось.

GA: Thank you very much
MP: In it because you just caught that melancholy, sadness so well
GA: Thank you (giggles)
FP: And when you get offered something like that or you want to go for something like that what is it that draws you? Do you go fantastic BBC period drama, or brilliant cast, or fantastic adaptation or I love the book?
GA: I think it’s all of it I wasn’t really that interested in doing television at the time but the script , the adaptation by Andrew Davis was so extraordinary that I kinda couldn’t not and the way it was coming together and the producers it was I could tell it was something special.
MP: And it was so good for you because it surprised so many people. Me in particular from having known you in the xf and all of a sudden is this the same person because it was entirely different and showed what a range you have got… naturally.
GA: Thank you
MP: There should be a question in there somewhere shouldn’t there
GA: (Laughs) I know. Was there (giggles)
FP: Well are people surprised?
GA: I think so and it makes sense I understand it. I understand…I didn,t …when I did the series that I did it went on for almost 10 years well 9 years I wasn’t intending to do a popular television series I was intending to do film and there you know and I got waylaid with that and since it’s been over it kind of feels like now I can get back to doing what I originally intended to do so.
FP: Yes and the thing is you just described it as the series that I did rather than the XF
GA: (Giggles) yeah
FP: And in doing something like that must be something of a blessing and something of a curse
GA: Sure... yeah
FP: Because you are then the agent forever
GA: Yeah I think…and while I was doing it I imagined that no it wont possibly typecast me, it can’t it absolutely won’t, it’s not going to happen and it just does to a certain degree
MP: But you broke out of it so much by doing bleak house and then the last king of Scotland and various different things really. Um what I was intrigued by…I was trying to work out where you are from because you were born in America then you lived here
GA: Yep I lived here from about 2 to 11
MP: then you went back to America
GA: yeah yes
MP: and now you’re back here
GA: Yes (giggles) that’s right. Well my parents always had …we…I grew up in crouch end and Haringey and um
FP: North London
GA: Yeah north London um and my parents always had a flat still when I was growing up and in the summers we would come back and be here so it was always a, it was a big part of my life um
MP: Do you consider yourself to be American or British, or doesn’t it matter
GA: It doesn’t matter to me, the press seem to think that it matters (laughs) but it doesn’t really matter to me I feel…I am very comfortable here. It feels like home um but ultimately I think part of my body knows that I am American.
FP: Yeah. Now you are tackling A Dolls House Gibsons play and it seems to be one of those things that actors sort of have to tackle at some point in there career. Does it feel daunting?
GA: Um yes and No. It’s a…it’s a…we have an adaptation by a wonderful playwright called Zinnie Harris and um the adaptation is really wonderful and um and it feels very doable it feels understandable. It feels like it makes sense in the contemporary world today so it doesn’t feel as daunting as it always has and yet it’s a mammoth of a play. I think for all of us.
MP: What is it about the play that is so important and makes it resonate so much though for actors particularly?
FP: Well it’s um you know there’s a huge er…there’s a downfall that happens, that takes place in the play with two characters, well with all of them in a sense erm particularly the character that I play Nora she um you know the play that we have is…it follows the disintegration of a marriage a lot of people who know A Dolls House think of it as that play where the wife left the husband and children at the end which if you an imagine at the end of the eighteen hundreds was and extraordinary thing to witness as a theatre going and it was banned actually in some countries. And the version that we have, um is as potent and shocking and disturbing in a sense because ultimately it shows a break down of sort of communication. and yeah communication.
FP: And there our communication must end because we are pushing into the programme.
